Introduction

The world is changing for women in science and technology. While it’s still a male-dominated field, there are many programs at universities and companies to help women succeed in STEM. Say’s Dylan Sidoo, so if you’re a woman looking to start your career in science or technology, check out these scholarships that can help you get started on your path.

Women and girls are being pushed out of STEM.

Women and girls are being pushed out of STEM. The gender gap in STEM fields is well-documented, but what’s less discussed is why women are choosing to leave these careers. Research shows that women are less likely to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In fact, only 17% of all bachelor’s degrees awarded in 2016 were in a STEM field–a number that hasn’t changed much since 2000 despite increasing demand for workers trained in these areas. The numbers become even more dismal when you consider who gets hired: studies have shown that employers prefer male applicants over equally qualified female ones 65% of the time!

This is why we’re so excited about our scholarship program–it gives our female students an opportunity they may not otherwise have had if it weren’t for us stepping up as advocates for equality and diversity within the scientific community at large.”

There are opportunities for women in STEM careers.

Women are just as capable of STEM careers as men. In fact, women make up nearly half of all U.S. college graduates and have been steadily increasing their representation in STEM fields over the past several decades.

There are many opportunities available for women who want to pursue a career in science or technology–and with scholarships like these, there’s no reason not to pursue them!

Encourage and support girls in STEM.

You can support girls in STEM by encouraging them to pursue careers in the field. Talk about your own experiences and why you love science or technology, and share stories about other women who have been successful in STEM. If there are female role models in your life (including yourself!), invite them over for dinner so that your daughter can meet them and hear their stories firsthand.

Encourage girls to participate in activities related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). For example: encourage her participation on robotics teams; join a community garden where she’ll learn about plant biology; take her shopping at an electronics store so she can see how electronic devices work; help build a computer together using recycled parts from old computers (you could even create a mini-computer!).

Women can pursue academic, research or professional careers in STEM fields.

Conclusion

The future of STEM is bright. It’s time for women to take their place in its history and lead the way into the future of science, technology and engineering.
